Workshop on greening of the European Semester
An overview of the potential of environmental taxation

Join us online on 17 November 2025 from 14:00 to 17:30 CEST for the workshop on “Greening of the European Semester – an overview of the potential of environmental taxation” to explore how pollution and resource taxes can help deliver the EU’s environmental and competitiveness goals.
This event will present the findings of the ongoing study conducted for the European Commission (DG Environment) on the potential to strengthen the use of environmental taxes across EU Member States, focusing on pollution and resource taxes. The study, commissioned by DG Environment and carried out by RPA Europe S.R.L., Risk & Policy Analysts Ltd, Centre for European Policy Studies, Logika Group and Metroeconomica, aims to improve European Commission’s knowledge base for the future cycles of the European Semester by assessing the state-of-play and potential for each Member State to implement the ‘polluter pays principle’.
This will be the opportunity to provide your Member State and regional perspective on the state of environmental taxation across the EU.
Experts will share insights on pollution and resource taxes, their environmental and economic impacts, and the implications for competitiveness and the single market.
